I made the glowing embers to put into a fireplace in the Medieval Hall scene.
It was suggested that I add a switch so that I didn't have to pull the battery connector off when I wanted it switched off. It had crossed my mind to do this anyway.
I decided to make a small box to house the battery, hide the soldered wires and to hold the switch. I decided to add one of these little 3 bar extensions. I intend to make two 'torches' on the wall of the medieval hall so I need 3 bulbs, one for each torch and one for the fire.
My first job was a small box. It could be any shape or size but the one I have made was this shape simply because I used some small scraps of wood. It could be made from mount board (but I'd use a couple of layers for strength) which is easier to cut with craft tools if you don't have woodworking tools.
The section with the hole is where the switch will go. Since I have the machinery, I routed around the lid section so it fits inside the box. It doesn't have to be perfect since it will be at the back of the scene. I will be able to use this on other things, not just the Hall.
Battery connector soldered onto the switch then I fed the connector through the switch hole and inserted the switch. The small hole is for the wires from the 'bar' which is attached next.
I also use the sockets and plugs used in USA. They are much nicer than the ones used in UK. They are better for inside dolls houses but for this sort of thing, the bigger ones are better. I haven't come across a 'bar' in the US system. I use both types, but I solder everything to copper tape at the back of my dolls house and use transformers. This is for my mobile scenes.
One thing you will need to watch, if you are making a box. Make sure you allow room for the part of the switch that is inside. I just got away with it !
Just tried out with all three plugs. Still works! The range will be another 'mobile' scene, when necessary.
Thank you for sharing very helpful and this looks great :)
